Carson City Sheriff’s Deputies were called to an incident involving a high powered handgun in the 600 block of Hot Springs Road. The caller reported that he and his roommate were arguing over a domestic issue whereupon the roommate left the room but soon returned with a semi-automatic pistol and pointed at him with orders to leave the apartment – which he did.
Once outside, the roommate called 9-1-1 and summoned deputies who arrived shortly thereafter. The deputies ordered gunman Blake Read, a state corrections employee, to come outside without the weapon and with his hands up. He complied.
Read told deputies the gun was never loaded and that all he did was tell his roommate not to “touch his stuff.” The deputies said they had no way to ascertain whether the gun was loaded at the time so they arrested Read and took him down to the city jail. Read was booked on a charge of Assault with a Deadly Weapon and placed in a jail cell under $20,000 bail.
