Nevada’s Congressional Delegation split on the vote to impeach President Donald Trump. Democrat members of Congress voted to impeach. Nevada’s lone republican representative Mark Amodei voted to not impeach.
Democrats Dina Titus, Steven Horsford, and Susie Lee all voted to impeach based on the common knowledge that Trump conspired to undermine former Vice President Joe Biden’s candidacy for President and then blocked evidence and testimony from White House officials who know what went on. Lone republican Rep. Mark Amodei contends, in so many words, the punishment didn’t fit the crime. The chairman of the Nevada Republican Party unleashed a series of retorts claiming that Nevada voters should vote all democrats out of office – that “they’re a bunch of rabid democratic partisans supporting a witch hunt.”
Meanwhile House Speaker Nancy Pelosi appears to be in no great hurry to refer the House’s vote to impeach President Trump to the Senate for possible conviction of the charges because Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has vowed to side with Trump and his lawyers. The delay likely includes Pelosi’s demand that Trump’s blocking testimony from White House staff ensures that the Senate proceeding will be a shallow exercise aimed solely at falsely exonerating Trump of the high crimes and misdemeanors filed against him. And the Senate cannot make such a ruling unless and until Speaker Pelosi authorizes the Senate to consider the charges. Some say that Pelosi’s strategy is to let the House’s impeachment decision sink in to the collective consciousness of the country and THEN refer it to the Senate for their decision.
