Although the benefactors of a most generous gift have passed on, their remaining family honored their wishes and awarded Western Nevada College a half million dollar endowment from Betty and Clarence Berger, life long community members in Carson City. The sizable monetary gift is to aid students and the college in general in educating those who want a good head start on life thereby opening up occupational opportunities for themselves which benefits everyone in the local community and economy.
Clarence Berger died in 2007 at the age of 95. His beloved Carson City dynamo wife Betty carried on the family tradition of very actively supporting the community until her death in 2019 at age 100 – just two days shy of her 101st birthday.
A very appreciative Mayor Bob Crowell accepted the Berger Family Endowment gift on behalf of the college which produced very loud and sincere applause from everyone in the Supervisors meeting room.
