Many families in and around Carson City need our help. Here’s how to do it..

Food Drive for FISH
Wed, April 15, 9am-4pm
Drop off food basket

Carson City Toyota on South Carson Street took note of the worsening situation for Carson area families who lost their jobs, or were temporarily laid off from their jobs, at the beginning of the Corona Virus pandemic.  It’s been going on for several weeks and many families are up against the wall.

Carson City Toyota employees will be accepting food donations this Wednesday, April 15th,  from 9am to 4pm at their South Carson City location.  All food donated will be delivered to the Friends In Service Helping, a non-profit charitable non-profit.  Jim Peckham of FISH says many families are very stressed and even the local food banks are extraordinarily busy trying to keep up with their needs..

“Right now, the meals we distribute via our food bank are up 50 percent compared to the week prior to the shut down,” said Jim Peckham, Executive Director of FISH. “People who were able to get SNAP (food stamp) benefits, now rely on local food banks to make ends meet as they try to get through this storm.”

Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak recently ordered all “non-essential” businesses to stay closed through the end of April in order to keep people off the streets and safely in their residences.  But that decree may go past the end of the month due to the Corona Virus’s persistent menace which could keep residents in their homes well into summer.

Carson City Toyota General Manager Jeff Campaigni heard about the rising need for food and services for Carson City residents and wanted to do something to help.  “We’ve been in this community for 40 years, and we know the value of supporting each other in times of need. We have been partnering with FISH for years, and we are honored to help support them now in whatever small way we can so FISH can continue to provide critical support for stressed local families.”

Carson City Toyota donated $6,000 last week to FISH to support the increased demand for food and meals. “Under the current situation” Peckham said, “we need every penny to help support our mission.

On Wednesday, April 15, Carson City Toyota will host a “Drive by Donation” Food Drive at their building 2590 S. Carson Street.

Retired General Manager for CC Toyota Dana Whaley says, “If you’re able and willing to make a donation next Wednesday, simply drive by the front of Carson City Toyota and drop off your items. We will have FISH volunteers on site, so you don’t even have to step foot out of your car. Any donation you can provide will be very much appreciated.”

Again, the drive-thru donation line will run from 9am to 4pm this Wednesday, April 15th.  You don’t have to file your tax returns until July 15th – so you’ve got lots of time.
