United Way on the move….

First Wave of UWNNS Emergency Assistance Fund Increases Available Food & Emergency Shelter
UWNNS Emergency Assistance Fund - First Wave of Funding
Dear Friends,,
This week, United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) dispersed its first wave of funding to 13 agencies serving northern Nevada to help meet the increasing needs in the community due to COVID-19 The first wave of funding prioritized organizations that provide food and emergency shelter.
Individuals and families can find information on accessing these resources online at uwnns.org/COVID19. We are also working with Nevada 211 to ensure these resources are listed on the statewide information and referral system.
As a part of this community, it was vital for UWNNS to do our part to support the organizations at the frontlines who are seeing an increase in the number of individuals and families needing food and emergency housing during this time.
A recipient of the funds shared the following message with us.
“The UWNNS Emergency Assistance funds have truly ‘come in the nick of time,’ enabling us to supplement our food pantry by ordering meat, eggs and milk almost immediately. We are honored to be partnering with United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra to serve our neighbors and friends.”
-Susan Sorenson, Executive Director of Northern Nevada Dream Center
Our team is continuing to raise funds to support the Emergency Assistance Fund, as we are expecting to receive over $1 million in requests from agencies throughout our region to continue helping our fellow northern Nevadans.
Next week we will announce a second wave of funding that will prioritize rental and mortgage assistance through a $400,000 contribution from the Nevada Attorney General’s Office. These funds are a result of the $2 million awarded to the entire state and divided by population between United Way of Southern Nevada and United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra.
Our Emergency Assistance Fund would not be possible without the generosity of our community. UWNNS would like to thank the following supporters who have contributed to the fund: NV Energy Foundation, Bank of America, Microsoft Reno, Wells Fargo Foundation, State Bar of Nevada Gaming Law Section, Charles Schwab, City National Bank, U.S. Bank Foundation, Washington Federal Bank, Nevada Attorney General’s Office, and numerous individuals and families like you.
As we continue to work together to help northern Nevadans, we will be updating information and available resources online at uwnns.org/COVID19.
