A resident on Continental was out digging along a wood fence line Monday afternoon when he suddenly heard the unmistakable sound of natural gas leaking loudly. The resident immediately got on the phone to 9-1-1 and 9-1-1 called the gas company to send a crew out to the scene. When the gas crew got there they immediately turned off the gas line and went about replacing the damaged link.
The lesson learned was that even if you think you know where your gas line from the street is routed to your house or business, let the gas company tell you EXACTLY where it is so these kinds of accidents don’t happen. If you are digging anywhere near a gas line, call 8-1-1. That’s right 8-1-1 and they’ll send out a crew with fancy electronics (ground penetrating radar) which will pin-point PRECISELY where the line is, underground. And they don’t charge anything for the service. 8-1-1. Can’t beat it!!
