Carson City, NV, June 1 – Earlier this morning Sunrise Movement Reno Hub, along with two Northern Nevada community leaders, endorsed Patricia Ackerman for Nevada Congressional District 2.
Sunrise Movement Reno stated: “The Reno Sunrise Hub proudly endorses Patricia Ackerman for Congress in Nevada’s second district. We look forward to a fossil free future with your help!”
Patrick Donnelly, Nevada State Director for Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, tweeted: “Patricia Ackerman for Congress is endorsed by Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund and now Sunrise Movement Reno Hub. If bold, rapid action to pursue climate justice is your priority as a voter, then the choice is clear in the NV-02 Democratic primary.”
Patricia Ackerman has made climate change and protecting public lands a centerpiece of her candidacy. As a former high-altitude mountaineer herself who moved to Minden to be closer to the mountains, protecting public lands is of special importance to Ackerman.
“We need a CD2 representative with the perspective of rural Nevada,” Judd said. “Her unique experiences feed her passion for solutions to healthcare and education access statewide.”
Forston stated: “I am happy to support the candidacy of Patricia Ackerman for Congressional District 2. She will represent the needs and interests of CD 2 with vigor and integrity.”
About Patricia Ackerman
Patricia Ackerman is the daughter of Ukrainian immigrants who arrived in this country fleeing the destruction of World War II. Patricia’s mother was forced slave labor for Nazi Germany, while her father almost starved to death in a concentration camp. At the age of 15, Patricia left a home plagued by domestic violence. With a GED in hand, Patricia started her own successful small business as an interior landscape designer at the age of 21. Patricia would go on to become an award-winning stage actress, a member of the Long Beach Mounted Police, an FBI independent contractor, and an accomplished high-altitude mountaineer. Patricia’s greatest driving force in her run for public office is her mother. From 2007-2013, Patricia acted as her mother’s primary caregiver. Toward the end of her mother’s life, Patricia could not find a local doctor who would take medicare in a timely fashion. Having to wait weeks, her mother passed away the day before her appointment. Patricia Ackerman wants to lead the charge in producing a healthcare system that is affordable and accessible to Northern Nevada. Follow Patricia on Twitter or Facebook.
