Governor Steve Sisolak says the Covid-19 pandemic has forced state budget cuts in many departments – cuts that will likely be extended into next year. Spending reductions so far are estimated to be over $800 million dollars. Governor Sisolak says he’s trying to soften the blow to education funding, public health and public safety while doing what can be done to get laid-off workers back on the job.
Governor Sisolak is like so many other governors around the U.S. – he’s hoping for the development of more advanced treatment for the Covid-19 virus along with the pursuit of a vaccine. It’s reported that over 150 individual research labs around the world are working feverishly to develop various versions of what they hope will be effective vaccines. The initial highly-touted treatment drug Remdesivir seems to work somewhat among Covid-19 victims but in clinical trials it didn’t perform as well as the medical community thought it would. They’re now trying to pair up Remdesivir with other anti-viral drugs in hoping to come up with a winning drug cocktail.
