Might have been old embers or a walker who got careless lighting up a cigarette
Carson City Firefighters rolled out to the east of Fremont School Monday night seeing some pretty lively flames out there. Firetrucks and crews quickly came on scene and went about drowning the fire. The blaze appeared to be limited to the west side of the access road.
We’re told told that there didn’t seem to be any evidence of arson of 4th of July explosives. But it doesn’t mean there weren’t some left over hot spots if anyone was out there on the 4th. Today’s winds were blowing fast enough to rekindle any slow burning embers deep down in the grass. Firefighters might be back out there tomorrow to check and see if they got it all. One firefighter surmised that somebody walking their dog might have lit up a cigarette and carelessly tossed the match to the ground and it caught traction.
The lesson – as usual – be careful with fire.
