A protest group parading north along Carson Street in front of the State Legislature ran afoul of the law Saturday evening. A Black Lives Matter demonstration was peaceful but eventually they were walking in the bicycle lane instead of the sidewalk. Sheriff’s deputies told them to get back on the sidewalk or switch to occupying grassy areas to protest. But they stubbornly would not leave the bicycle lane portion of the pavement.
Within a few minutes the deputies had the demonstrators stopped and three of them, who appeared to be leaders of the protest, were cuffed and hauled off to the Carson City Jail to be formally charged with not complying with law enforcement orders to not walk in the street.
