It’s one of those stories that’s becoming more and more common during the Covid-19 pandemic and the nearly routine use of illegal drugs. Jobs are scarce and people are cooped up in whatever they call home.
Carson City Sheriff’s Deputies report that a neighbor on Woodside Drive spotted three young children running around outside their residence – two wearing only t-shirts – the youngest wearing no clothes at all.
The story began Thursday around noon, when a neighbor spotted the three scantily clothed youngsters outside with no supervision. The neighbor called 9-1-1 and sheriff’s deputies were there in short order. They rounded up the kids and put them back in their residence but they couldn’t find any sign of their parents. Suddenly an adult male emerged from his sleeping quarters in the garage – he’s a night-worker/day-sleeper. He told the deputies that he didn’t know the kids were outside and was unaware that their mother or father were not home. Deputies summoned child protective services.
Deputies say the adult male helped them contact the mother and the father of the children – the father at work – the mother sleeping off a night of drug use at another location.
Both eventually showed up at the scene. The residence was strewn with garbage and the smell of urine. Both were were arrested for Child Abuse, Child Neglect and Child Endangerment. They were both lodged in the city jail. The children were taken into protective custody.
