A Carson City man, dead-set on getting a huge discount on two car batteries, found out the hard way that you can’t easily fool the Walmart loss prevention personnel.
According to a Carson City Sheriff’s Office report Louis Carrette, 39 of Carson City, picked up a couple of car batteries from the shelf and, according to deputies, swapped each of the batteries’ price tags ($100 each) and put lower priced tags ($5 each) on the batteries using a phony bar code. From there deputies learned that Carrette got through the “check-yourself-out-line” and headed for the exits.
By then store loss prevention officers were on to Carrette. Before he could get to his car, store officers intercepted him in the parking lot. After a brief confrontation, arriving sheriff’s deputies arrested Carrette on charges of attempted robbery. His bail was set at $40,000.
