After escaping from a Nevada prison 27 years ago, Samuel Avalos-Gallardo, 52, is now back behind bars. Avalos-Gallardo escaped from the Nevada Department of Corrections in February 1994, while part of a Nevada State Firefighting crew run by the prison.
Gallardo was incarcerated in April 1993, for Driving Under the Influence resulting in an accident that caused the death of another person. On top of that the incident caused substantial bodily harm to two other victims.
Avalos-Gallardo was captured in January 2020, awaiting extradition from outside the U.S. Nevada Department of Corrections received Avalos-Gallardo from a U.S. Marshal Service Foreign Office on April 20. His being taken back in to custody after so many years of avoiding law enforcement finally caught up with him. At his age, he may never again see the outside world except through barred windows.
