1:35pm – Report of a sizeable brush/wildland fire south of Carson River Park. Numerous fire departments are racing to the scene before structures are threatened. Fire is on the west bank of the river.
1:39pm – Firefighters and Sheriff’s Deputies discovered smoke near Carson River Park. They raced out to the banks of the river and found that young people had ignited a fire…most of them getting away while firefighters knocked down the small area that was burning.
1:50pm – Sheriff’s Deputies talked to one young man near the scene. No word on what he told them. Bottom line though, this past winter was no drenching downpour for a green spring. Wildland fires may very well keep our diligent firefighters busy all summer. Residents are encouraged to create cleared-out “defensible space” from around their houses and outbuildings so a wildland fire doesn’t burn their lives down at the same time.
