A fire broke out at Parkway Plaza Apartments off College Parkway Saturday afternoon. The blaze may have been started by children playing with matches among very flammable bushes growing next to an outside wall, according to neighbors. Due to the tinder dry conditions and breezy winds the burning plants quickly ignited the outside wall of the apartments. The fire quickly raced up to the second floor and started burning parts of the upstairs apartment. All tenants escaped without injury. Rhino Roofing employees who were working on another part of the building went door to door, helping to evacuate residents.
The fire was quickly extinguished by fast moving Carson City Firefighters. But the damage was still terrible. In fact a number of other connected apartments were rendered unlivable due to the fire’s damage to the building’s electrical and natural gas system. A number of tenants were given shelter by The Red Cross. Again, no injuries but a lot of personal property was likely lost. An investigation by the Carson City Fire Department may like take a few days to complete.
