An adult male mountain biker has died from a head injury following a collision on C-Hill, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong. The unidentified California man apparently struck a metal chain that crosses a pathway on the West Carson City trail. Sheriff Furlong says the rider was not wearing protective head gear. An autopsy will determine the exact cause of death.
Sheriff Furlong said these kinds of off-road mountain bike accidents often happen in early summer when riders are tempted to push themselves beyond safety limits. Sheriff Furlong said it doesn’t take much to slide off a trail, or in this case, hit a chain across a trail – to cause serious injuries – or in this case – death. “Wearing protective gear is extremely important. Accidents do happen. Even a moderate fall in the back-country can be deadly,” said Furlong.
