Around 6pm, thick black smoke began billowing high the air over Duck Hill just above Highway 395. Fire Engine crews from both Washoe Lake and Carson City raced up the steep terrain and immediately began spraying a lot of water on the burning vehicle and the vegetation surrounding it. Homes were very close to the scene.
It didn’t take long for the firefighters to knock down the flames engulfing the vehicle and the surrounding brush. No reports of any injuries. A specific cause of the blaze has not yet been released. But a word to the wise – temperatures are rising into the 100’s over the next few days making off-road vehicle driving extremely dangerous – if not deadly.
