More comments on plans to build a new animal slaughter house near businesses, single family homes, stores, other business and residential locations just west of Deer Run Road and Highway 50.

To Whom It May Concern,
I have worked with farm animals for many years. I was a Biomedical Researcher studying skin kinetics, and my experimental animal was Yorkshire pigs. Located at the same site, but housed in very nearby facilities, were dogs, cats and horses. I can assure you that, even though some of these facilities were enclosed spaces, the smells and the noise were apparent for a large distance around.
Fortunately, the entire “farm” was not located near any residential area, but even driving past it, or to it, one could smell the various animals (and their wastes), and, near feeding times, the sound, especially from the pigs, was extremely loud. Having spoken to several farmers about this, we determined that this is something that cannot be avoided, so we researchers and other workers at the facility simply had to live with it.
If I had been a nearby homeowner, I assure you there would have been lawsuits filed to stop what was obviously a persistent nuisance, but, as I have explained, our farm was located in a large, non-residential area. Please take these serious considerations into account before making a decision which many residents will come to regret. Thank you for your attention.
