Quad-County COVID-19 Weekly Update: October 28 – November 3, 2021

(Carson City, NV)- Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) is providing the Quad-County community with a weekly update for the week starting October 28 and ending November 3, 2021.

COVID-19 Case Update

For the week, CCHHS is reporting 6 deaths, 490 new cases, and 168 additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County Region. This brings the total number of cases to 20,473, with 15,535 recoveries and 339 deaths; 4,599 cases remain active.

Carson City had 2 deaths, 197 new cases, and 73 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Carson City is 10 new cases per day with a 5.3% test positivity rate.

Douglas County had 0 deaths, 130 new cases, and 43 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Douglas County is 7 new cases per day with a 9.2% test positivity rate.

Lyon County had 4 deaths, 157 new cases, and 51 additional recoveries of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Lyon County is 12 new cases per day with a 12.7% test positivity rate.

Storey County had 6 new cases and 1 additional recovery of COVID-19 this week. The current 14-day moving average for Storey County is 0 new cases per day with a 12.5% test positivity rate. 

COVID-19 Vaccination Update 

As of November 3, 2021, approximately 194,853 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered by Quad-County providers. CCHHS has administered 71,698 doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Approximately 85,568 Quad-County residents have completed vaccination (received both doses of a 2-dose series vaccine such as Pfizer or Moderna or received the single dose Janssen vaccine) and 93,323 have initiated it (received the first dose of a 2-dose series such as Pfizer or Moderna. This number also includes those who completed the series). Data is not CCHHS’ and is taken from the Nevada Health Response Dashboard which can be found at https://nvhealthresponse.nv.gov/.

In Carson City, 32,951 residents have been completely vaccinated and 35,732 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 65.3% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

In Douglas County, 25,042 residents have been completely vaccinated and 27,210 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 56.8% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

In Lyon County, 26,798 residents have been completely vaccinated and 29,524 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 52.7% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination.

In Storey County, 777 residents have been completely vaccinated and 857 have initiated vaccination. Approximately 20% of the population 12 years and older have completed vaccination. 

Quad-County Breakthrough Cases

Vaccine breakthrough cases are individuals who testing positive for COVID-19 more than 14 days after they have completed all recommended doses of an FDA authorized COVID-19 vaccine. Since February 1, 2021, out of the total population in the Quad-County region who are fully vaccinated, approximately 1,407 people out of 100k are cases and approximately 9,697 unvaccinated people out of 100k are cases. 

Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine For Children Ages 5 to 11

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)  and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) authorized the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for use in children ages 5 to 11. Children ages 5 through 11 years receive one-third of the adult dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. Adolescents ages 12 years and older receive the same dose of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine as adults. Your child will need a second shot of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine 3 weeks after their first shot. CCHHS will be offering the Pediatric Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at all community vaccination events starting the week of November 8, 2021. Upcoming CCHHS Walk-In COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics 

All vaccines are available on a walk-in basis at every event for first, second, and third doses for those who are immunocompromised. Pfizer, Moderna, and Janssen booster doses are available for those who are eligible. COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card or proof of first dose is required for second dose, third dose, or booster dose. Community-Based COVID-19 Testing

CCHHS will be hosting COVID-19 testing events throughout the Quad-County Region. Tests are available free of charge, on a first come, first serve basis; no appointments or pre-registration needed.
