Carson City City Hall – On the Move and On the Grow…

New Carson City City Hall…in the making

Carson City Supervisors are making plans to purchase the old Bank of America building directly across Highway 50 from Smith’s Grocery.  The plans are just now starting to take shape which includes consolidating many far flung city offices and additional space for courtrooms, meeting rooms, public contact services and Supervisors’ meeting room.  It’s going to take a lot of planning and interior alterations.  Again, it may take a couple of years to get it all up to snuff.

The supervisors also introduced first reading of a city ordinance that forbids marijuana smoking in stores that sell marijuana, no smoking marijuana in all other stores as well on the streets and other public places.  The new regulations could be made official in a few weeks.

Trusty walkaway reported from transitional housing center in Las Vegas

The Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC) reports that on Wednesday, July 14, a community trusty walked away from Casa Grande Transitional Housing in Las Vegas, Nev.  Inmate Freddie Wright, #52812,43, left the facility at 2 p.m. for work but did not report to his approved job site.  Escape procedures were initiated around 3:30 p.m.

Wright arrived at the Nevada Department of Corrections on Jan. 30, 2018, from Clark County. He is serving a sentence of 48-120 months for Driving Under the Influence.

Wright is 5-feet-11-inches tall and 160 pounds. He is black with brown eyes and black hair. He has tattoos on both arms, back and chest, including “Kimberly” on his right hand and “Wifey Right” on his left.  He is also known as Jabari, Hassell, Miniker and Bar. He is affiliated with the Crips gang.  A retake warrant has been issued. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Wright should immediately call 911.

Lyon County Commission rules no re-naming of Old Dayton Valley Road

It took several hours Thursday morning for the Lyon County Commission to make their decision.  On a three to two vote among the commissioners, a proposal to rename Old Dayton Valley Road “President Trump Way” failed.  A number of residents, both for and against renaming the road, made some strong points from “We want it to be President Trump Way” because he was President of the United States and he accomplished a lot in his four years as President”  to others who decided they want the historic avenue through town called “Old Dayton Valley Road” to remain because it has deep historical meaning to the community.  And it would cost a pretty penny to replace the signs to reflect the former President’s time in the White House.  Others worried about Dayton students learning about Trump’s bumpy ride in the White House and his role in whipping up a huge crowd that stormed the U.S. Capital Building, killing five people – one a police officer – as well as others being wounded during the onslaught.

As everyone knows those who like the former President have great respect for the Donald Trump while others have quite the opposite opinion.  Trump and a number of business affiliates  are being investigated by several federal and state agencies that strongly suggest the road ahead for Mr. Trump might be more than a little troublesome.

But for time being, Old Dayton Valley Road will remain Dayton Valley Road.  But there could very well emerge a community petition to put the issue on the ballot to get the wide view of how the Dayton Community feels about it.

Stay Tuned.

Fire breaks out atop Duck Hill – Burning vehicle said to be the cause….

Around 6pm,  thick black smoke began billowing high the air over Duck Hill just above Highway 395.  Fire Engine crews from both Washoe Lake and Carson City raced up the steep terrain and immediately began spraying a lot of water on the burning vehicle and the vegetation surrounding it.  Homes were very close to the scene.

It didn’t take long for the firefighters to knock down the flames engulfing the vehicle and the surrounding brush.  No reports of any injuries.  A specific cause of the blaze has not yet been released.   But a word to the wise – temperatures are rising into the 100’s over the next few days making off-road vehicle driving extremely dangerous – if not deadly.
